They were on the short list of companies rumored to be in talks to buy the Glendronach distillery from Pernod Ricard. The Scotsman reports this morning that they are indeed the one buying the distillery, for about $30 million.
A spokesman for Pernod is quoted saying the they expect the sale to be final by September.

Is that $30 with the assumption of a whole lot of debt, or an actual $30?
$30! What a steal! I woulda paid at least $50.
Dear John,
Great news. Thanks. Billy Walker & Co. have done amazing things with Benriach & I’m sure they’ll do wonderful things with Glendronach. The Glendronach distillery bottlings have been very good and it will likely just be a matter of time for Billy to discover what casks lay waiting in the Glendronach warehouses. Cheers.
Bill
David, Lazerini: I omitted a few zeros. Six to be exact. (I corrected it.) That’s what I get for posting before my morning coffee.
Bill, yes, it’s going to be an exciting time for Glendronach enthusiasts. I am very excited.
good news. it was a forgotten jewel in the huge PR whisky portfolio. Benriach will manage it much better.
they might even have Mr. Bergius on board as he retired from PR, and Glendronach belonged to his family once.
Daavid, yes, it will be interesting to see how this all plays out. If the new owners treat Glendronach the same way they treat BenRiach, we’ll be seeing a lot of new expressions over the next several years.
They made it official today. I got the press release from BenRiach. They refer to Glendronach as a “Sleeping Giant.”
It was about time that someone recognized the hidden value of a gem like the Glendronach. I am just so excited to know that one of my favourite sherried malts is on it’s way back in a few months time. I have seen that the new labels on the 15 & 18 yo. express that they are “highly sherried” which only goes to show that sherried whiskies are extremely sought after. I only hope that they keep the price reasonable on these malts..
