This blog is a great vehicle for me to pass on whisky information to you as soon as I get it, and it’s also a way for me to let you know what whiskies I think are worth seeing out and which ones you should avoid.
However, as B.J. Reed pointed out in his comment on this blog’s first anniversary, it has been mostly a one-way street, with me passing information to you. I’m not getting enough feedback and dialogue from you.
I’ll take the blame for this, because I haven’t been posting topics that encourage discussion. The primary reason for this has been time constraints. This past year, it was difficult enough for me to set up this blog and post industry information and product reviews, while getting all the other stuff done that I have to do.
However, now that I’ve settled in a bit, I’m willing to post additional topics that encourage input from you. It’s pretty clear that all of you are intelligent, passionate whisky enthusiasts from all aspects of the whisky world (consumers, retailers, wholesalers, distillers and press). I think we can have some great discussions.
So, beginning next week, I’ll begin posting up topics occasionally encouraging diologe, along with the postings I am already doing. When I do, please join in.
John- Since you are encouraging input I will make a contribution, even though my only previous input (on Waves) solicited some controversy. I am on a tour of Northern Capitals (Copenhagen, Oslo, Stockholm, St. Petersberg and Helsinki). I note that in Malt Advocate you list Juul’s Vinhandel I/S as one of the 250 club. I went in the store while in Copenhagen and thought I was in Malt heaven. They had several walls of single malt. I spent a lot of time there but mostly looking, because the prices in Scandanavia are very high. I found a bottle of PC6 from Bruichladdich and the price was about $200. They had malt whisky from all over including Sweden, France, Japan, New Zeland, Australia and Canada. There are only 10-15 distillery malts that I do not have any version of and this store had 4 of them. I would recommend that any malt enthusiast when in Copenhagen stop in and check this store out.

just wanted to say, with no relevancy, that I had the glenrothes no age statement for the first time this Saturday and loved it! It was unbelievably well balanced and lacked the pepperiness that I dislike. Was definitely a “smooth” dram.
Hi John,
you have no reason to put that much ashes onto your head. As in my case I think that many of your fatihful readers like myself are to be found in other blogs and forums.
Sometimes it is just a matter of time to send you a comment. Be asured that you have more readers than you know but that not all of them are contributors.
Don`t let this discrepancy fool you. We like what you do. And often you are the first to have news on new whiskies or developments in the industry.

Lawschooldrunk, the Glenrothes Select Reserve is a nice whisky. It’s not as exotic as some of the older vintage Glenrothes, but it is a solid effort.
Kallaskander, thanks for your note. I’ll keep the posts coming on the new whiskies, reviews, etc., as in the past, but I’ll also put up some posts to encourage some discussion too. We’ll see how it goes.

On the main subject some fantastic whiskies coming form Tomintoul with the oloroso finish and peaty tang superb.

Yes, Bloggers share this common problem to get answers. If you talk about big politics, you get an awfull lot of answers – but more crap than serious. If you talk about detail and especially whisky, then you receive scarce comments.
There are so many forums out there about whisky, that blogs are read easily but discussion moves on to the forums. I wonder how many forum threads worldwide were triggered by you.
I run an A-Blog about whisky in German language. I have 3000 daily readers but you are able to count comments with the fingers of you hand.
The solution I found was mirroring the blog into a special part of a forum. The readers without the intention to comment or discuss will stay with the blog and all others are attracted into the forum where discussion and linking is much easier than in a WordPress blog.
