First there was Black Bowmore, then White Bowmore. Now, it’s Gold Bowmore.
Here’s a picture of it. I will have a sample of this by early next week and will let you know my thoughts on it. (Yes, I know… another “exclusive” whisky. I’m just doing my job.)
Here are also the details I received from my Bowmore contact:
Gold Bowmore is the third and final release of the three limited editions:
o Black Bowmore – 827 Bottles Released in 2007
o White Bowmore – 732 Bottles Released in 2008
o Gold Bowmore – 701 Bottles Released in Fall 2009• Release date: September 2009
• Suggested Retail Price: $6,250.00 / USD
• Availability: 701 Bottles worldwide
• Packaging: Hand-numbered bottle presented in a Burr Elm box
• Gold Bowmore is 84.8% proof
• Gold Bowmore was distilled on 5 November 1964
• Matured in three (3) Bourbon casks and one (1) Oloroso sherry cask then married together
• 45 years of aging in the famous Bowmore Number One vault – below sea level
• Colour: Rich Gold / Aromas: Passion fruit, papaya, and vanilla
• Flavors: Ripe exotic fruits, creamy vanilla, hint of smoky peat
• Other: The oak Oloroso casks retain a tremendous amount of sherry walnut flavors resulting in a darker, reddish-amber whisky color
• The casks are aged below sea level in Bowmore’s coastal cellar – the Number 1 vault.
• Floral notes are deeper, flavors more profound, color is darker than usual allowing it to develop in a fashion similar to a fine vintage port.

so cheap?
get me a case…
While I’ll never get to taste it, I’ll be looking forward to your tasting notes. I got to sample the black bowmore before and very much enjoyed it.
I’d never BUY it. I may as well just go downtown and kick poor people in the head. But I enjoyed the sample.
I think not so many people will have a problem with this super-premium malt.
Yes, this expression of Bowmore will be expensive and most people will not be able to afford it, but at least this one is a real rarity and not just mock-rarities like the the bottles from the Manager’s Choice series.
I think John is overworked…and we should all take turns handing his samples…give the poor man a break. Then again, It’s a rough job, but someone has to do it.
Damn, you have a sweet job
Also looking forward to hearing your thoughts on this. I agree with Leorin.
BTW, I was sent an updated price (fortunately lower) for this whisky, by the importer. I made the adjustment.
Thanks for the correction John.
It’s less out of reach now.
As always, looking forward to your thoughts.
I had the good fortune to taste White Bowmore at an official Morrison Bowmore tasting in Dublin in 2008.
Needless to say, official Morrison Bowmore tastings in Dublin will be well attended in future…
P.S. For those not fortunate enough John’s review of WB is spot-on.
Oh, I bet this will be a cracker!
Thanks Luke for the vote of confidence. BTW, I added links to Black Bowmore and White Bowmore in my post above taking you to my reviews of both of these whiskies.
